Cobram AGS Goes Green

Over the Term Two holidays, we installed a cutting-edge 99.6kW solar panel system. By harnessing the power of the sun, we will greatly reduce our reliance on traditional energy sources and embrace clean, renewable energy.

Local business Cobram Electrical Data won a competitive tender process to carry out the installation. The new system comprises of 227 state-of-the-art solar panels, strategically positioned on the roof of the undercover basketball court.

Below is a snapshot of how the new system will directly benefit the school.

- Will result in a 96% reduction in carbon emissions.
- Will also result in a 60% reduction in ongoing power costs.

It is a grid connected self-consumption solar system. More than half the power the system will generate will be self-consumed by the school, with any excess energy exported to the grid. This system will greatly reduce the amount of energy the school needs to purchase. These cost savings can then be reinvested into educational programs, facilities, and resources, ultimately benefiting the entire school community.

Cobram AGS Business Manager, Narelle Schreenan, described the decision to introduce the large-scale solar panel system as a big step forward for the school and said its impacts would be far-reaching.

“This project will greatly reduce our reliance on traditional energy sources and help us move towards a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly energy solution,” Mrs Schreenan said.

“It will also generate discussion amongst our school community, in turn providing opportunities for our students to learn more about renewable energy and its many benefits moving forward,” she added.
