Updated Traffic Management - Term One 2021
Traffic Management update 19/02/21
Firstly I’d like to take the opportunity to thank all our families for their understanding and patience as we work through the complexities of managing traffic flow around the school site. The School has been working closely with grounds staff and surveyors to map out a plan with future growth in mind. The attached plan will give you an indication of how traffic flow will look once minor works commence. The changes include;
- Construction of the boundary fence on the RACV side of the school. This will stop traffic access to what we call Diaco Lane, which is a privately owned road.
- Parallel parking along the fence line (currently angle parking) will improve traffic flow during the peak afternoon pick up times.
- There is ample parking in the old staff car park which is available for immediate use for families.
- All traffic will then proceed to a common turn around area before following the new boundary fence to exit the school site.
- The Young Street entrance to the site shall be closed off to vehicles.
In the coming weeks contractors will commence work on completing the boundary fence which is important for securing the School after hours. Disappointingly we were victims of several minor vandalism attacks over the summer school holidays and to ensure security, completing this fence as soon as possible, is seen as a priority for the school. Families should note the ‘no standing’ and 40km zones along Campbell Road during designated times. Students should not be dropped at the front of the school, I know for a busy family this seems convenient, but there is no safe pedestrian access into the school from this point, as the large school buses are moving in and around the area. If parents or carers need to come into the school office during these busy times please park in the designated carpark and walk over to the office.
Finally, for 15 minutes each day in the afternoon there is much flurry as we try to get all our young people home safely. Please be patient and follow staff directions, take your time and limit your vehicle speed to 10kph. It is important to note the current arrangements remain in place until works commence.
Please note that the drop off and pick up points for bus travellers will now be at the (front) ‘D’ entrance to the school as it comes off Campbell Road. Buses will enter from the northern end of the ‘D’ and exit via the southern end. Only buses are permitted in this area between 8.15am and 9.00am in the morning and 2.45pm and 3.30pm in the afternoon.
Please also be advised that the Fallons country buses will be reverting to previous arrangements where only two of the Fallons buses (Koonoomoo and Sandmount buses) will come to Cobram AGS. These two buses will “shuttle” the students to Cobram Secondary College where some students will need to change buses.
Please see below information for which students will travel on each shuttle bus:
Shuttle bus 1 (Koonoomoo bus) - takes students from Koonoomoo, Yarroweyah, Muckatah and Strathmerton buses from Cobram AGS to Cobram Secondary College.
Shuttle bus 2 - (Sandmount bus) - takes students from Sandmount, Burramine, Katamatite buses from Cobram AGS to Cobram Secondary College.
If you have any queries about which bus your student needs to travel on please contact Amy Duhring in the office.
Years One – Twelve: Parent Drop Off and Pick Up
Please note that parent drop off and pick up arrangements have changed significantly. Due to Planning Permit conditions we are no longer allowed to use Young Street (rear oval) for parental entrance or exiting of the school for any reason. This includes dropping off and picking up students at the beginning and end of each school day. Students who walk or ride to school can continue to use this entrance to the school.
Parent drop off and pick up will now take place in the driveway area on the southern aspect of the school. Parents will enter the school from Campbell Road and use parking spaces that have been established on this side of the school. We ask that speed limits are kept to 10kmh maximum and ask for people’s forbearance and cooperation as we become familiar with the new arrangements. I am confident that with patience and cooperation, we can establish a pick up and drop off area that is safe and effective for our school community. Staff members will be on duty to assist with traffic flow and to ensure student safety.
Foundation: Student Drop off and Pick Up
In the interest of making the school day as safe as possible for our new Foundation students, their drop off and pick up area will be the car park adjacent to the Foundation classrooms (Previously Junior School staff car park). Parents can enter this car park off Campbell Rd next to the pedestrian crossing. There will be staff in attendance to welcome the Foundation students and their parents as they arrive.
