Live4Life

Cobram AGS is proud to be one of eight schools from across the Moira Shire who, in partnership with the Moira Shire Council and various other community organisations, have facilitated the implementation of the Live4Life initiative within the Moira community. Live4Life was created specifically for rural communities in response to a reported increase from schools and agencies, in the incidence of depression, anxiety, cyber bullying and self-harm amongst young people. This highlighted the need for a coordinated response to address our young people’s mental health. It was agreed that an evidenced based approach with a focus on prevention and education was required in our community.

The Live4Life team, work with rural Victorian communities to support, improve and invest in young people’s mental health and wellbeing, it is a whole of community approach to youth mental health and youth suicide prevention. The Live4Life model is currently being delivered in six rural Local Government areas: Baw Baw; Benalla; Glenelg; Macedon Ranges; Southern Grampians and here in Moira!

A significant component of the Live4Life model includes the delivery of teen Mental Health First Aid training (develop by Mental Health First Aid Australia) to your Year 8 and Year 11 student. This training gives teenagers the skills they need to recognise and help with mental health problems and crises in their friends, and to get the help of an adult quickly.

A further component of the Live4Life model encourages the development of youth leadership in the form of “The Crew”.  Student representatives from years 9 and 10 are invited to assist in the delivery of Live4Life events and drive key Live4Life messages at school and in the community. The Crew is supported by school staff and staff from Moira Shire Council.
