Cowell claims Athletics Carnival
A high point of Term Three has been the return of our House Athletics Carnival after a two year absence due to COVID Restrictions.
Split over two days, our Foundation to Year 2 students got things underway on Tuesday 23 August 2022 at Barooga Recreation Reserve. While the weather was icy, it certainly did not dampen the spirits of the children who got to experience their first Athletics Carnival (the Year 1 and 2s had previously missed out due to COVID restrictions).
Two days later, a much larger gathering of students from Years 3-12 competed for house glory in a range of events such as triple jump, high jump, long jump, shot put, discus and track events over several distances. The atmosphere was terrific, elevated by the positive attitudes of the students and their willingness to have a go.
There were also some weird, whacky and wonderful outfits on display, which always adds a bit of humour to the day. Before recognising the magnificent efforts of our student body, a special shout out must go to Mr O’Dwyer for pulling both events together! It takes an extraordinary amount of time and effort to ensure these events run smoothly so that our students can enjoy themselves. The same goes for all members of staff, as well as parents who assisted us on the day. It wouldn’t have been possible without the selfless efforts of our collective school community.
Following the event, Cowell House was declared the winner, with a total of 2402 points, pipping Stanyer by 162 points, with Parkes and Farrer finishing third and fourth.
